During his first year, Hayes was the student representative for the national organization of the American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants, and the student leader in his second year.
In addition to the courses, Hayes received training in basic, advanced cardiac and pediatric life support. He completed a diverse monthly rotation in a wide variety of surgical disciplines including general surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, cardiothoracic surgery, obstetrics, neurosurgery, and trauma. He successfully passed the national certification exam and earned the right to practice anesthesia under any anesthesiologist.

Communication skills are extremely important because you must coordinate and optimize patient care with your anesthesiologist, surgeons, and nurse managers.
